The countryside around Pauliac offers wonderful walking country and exhilarating terrain for bike rides.  There are wild flowers in abundance in May and June; fields of sunflowers in July and walnuts and mushrooms to gather in the autumn months.

Close by is the town of Verteillac, which has a horse riding centre, bars and a shop that sells everything! Ribérac, also not far, has street cafés, supermarkets and a colourful market every Friday morning.  Périgueux, the capital of the Dordogne is 35kms from Pauliac.  Its renaissance quarter has been beautifully restored with narrow, cool streets opening on to sunny squares full of cafés and small shops.

Further afield the prehistoric sites of Les Eyzies and Lascaux; the châteaux of the Dordogne River; the remarkable town of Sarlat and the vineyards of Bergerac and Bordeaux are all within easy reach.
